The image above is a photo taken by my dear friend Özlem–it was taken in Turkey in a place where people tied their hopes and sorrows and prayers together–each one deserving to be acknowledged, heard, and responded to. Today, I am recommending the book The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller. It is a book about grieving. And…… he lists Ann Weiser Cornell in his list of resources for grief work as a resource for Psychology/Soul Work (in fact, she is the first one he lists in that cateegory). A poem he includes in his work:
Come new to this day.
Remove the rigid overcoat of experience,
the notion of knowing,
the beliefs that cloud your vision.
Leave behind the stories of your life.
Spit out the sour taste of unmet expectation.
Let the stale scent of what-ifs waft back into the swamp
of your useless fears.
Arrive curious, without the armor of certainty,
the plans and planned results of the life you’ve imagined.
Live the life that chooses you,
new every breath, every blink of your astonished eyes.
